Middleton Elementary School Renovation
Scope
Renovation of the hydronic piping system from a 2-pipe system to a 4-pipe system. Combined heating/cooling lines were separated into individual heating and cooling lines. Replaced (31) unit ventilators and their associated exhaust fans. Refurbished (3) AHUs with new motors and VFDs. Replaced all glass with new, safer glass. Repainted all trim. Removed old VCT tile and polished existing concrete floors in hallways and cafeteria. Replaced the old carpet with new in the classrooms.
Challenges
HTM acted as the general contractor on the Middleton Elementary School renovation with 10 subcontractors. This job required a constant leadership presence on-site. This was partially due to the number of subcontractors, but also had to do with the tight schedule. Due to time constraints, equipment had to be ordered prior to “approval” from the design team. This was a calculated risk taken by HTM to ensure the project was not delayed for another year. In the end, it paid off. Also due to time constraints, there were not any exterior painters available for summer work. HTM took on the task of painting the AHUs, siding, and curbs. They turned out great with no complaints by the owner/architect.
