University of Oregon East Campus Residence Hall – New Construction
Overview
University of Oregon’s new 185,000 square foot residence hall achieved LEED Gold certification. The East Campus Residence Hall is a live-learn facility with a kitchen, dining hall, multi-purpose room, classrooms and study areas all on the first floor. There are three towers to house 454 undergraduate students within this building as well. The mechanical systems are custom indoor heat recovery units. Air handlers with VAV reheat utilized hydronic heating and cooling which is fed via tunnel from the central utility plant while the plumbing utilizes solar hot water heating for energy efficiency. The towers utilize convectors in each room for individual space control and operable windows with visual indicators for efficient utilization of free cooling. BIM coordination was necessary to fit over 200,000 lbs of duct-work in the basement, as well as all of the services in the upper floors, which are all short on space.
