Excellence in Construction
The University of Oregon Football Operations Building Project
For some projects we work to make dreams come true. Such is the case with the Hatfield-Dowlin complex, in which we realized the dreams of football coaches, architects, and visionaries to create the most architecturally stunning, technically advanced, purpose built, results driven sports training facility on planet Earth located here in Oregon. Our contribution to this project won the Eagle award for Excellence in Construction.
The building incorporates everything the Ducks’ team needs to be at its peak. Advanced weight room and training facilities are expected of course, but absolutely no detail was overlooked. From the moment you enter the parking garage, the building imprints you with the Duck’s brand and mission. For visiting teams this invokes doubt and apprehension; for the Ducks and their fans, passion and pride.
There is lot to be proud of: the building boasts world class offices, a commercial grade kitchen supporting a high impact nutrition program, executive dining, multiple briefing theaters, teaching rooms, separate lounges for players, coaches, NFL scouts, and families, locker rooms for players and coaches, conference rooms, a Media room and a strategy center called Area 51. The Duck’s amenities are unrivaled in the NCAA or NFL. The architectural details and purpose of the building, created some challenges for the building mechanical systems. The large amounts of hardwood, glass, and other sensitive high-end finishes required all of the 5 million BTU heating and 300 ton cooling systems to be up and running before interior finishes were installed.
Every usage scenario was thought through by the Hydro-Temp project team, from the volume of foot traffic each area would have, to the resilience needed to with- stand team rough housing, and the purpose the facility served. Like the Ducks Team, the mechanical systems go above and beyond to perform. HVAC systems exhaust each and every locker in the locker rooms, so the locker room smells like a spa while working to dry out the player’s gear. The heating and cooling system smoothly adjusts to load swings from hundreds of people swelling into a space for a short amount of time, such as the lobby, the dining area, media room, and the large and small theaters.
Although this was a new construction project; changes in design throughout the project kept us thinking on our feet. We transformed a storage closet into the stunning Ring Room, which displays past championship and bowl rings earned by the Ducks in a Tiffany Style casing, and developed the system to diffuse the heat which would build up in the small space. Whether retrofitting existing structures or working with new construction, Hydro-Temp teams consistently rise to these challenges. We’re proud to serve the Pacific Northwest and love to work with organizations demanding creative, efficient solutions for their facility.
Hydro-Temp is proud to be part of the construction team that brought this project for life for the Duck’s football team.
