PIA Concourse D West – HVAC Replacement
Summary
To increase passenger comfort, replacement of the Concourse D Heating and Air Conditioning system was essential. The system serves 100,000 sqft including gates D10- 15, the Federal Inspection Station and security checkpoint. This involved replacing an antiquated Air Handling Unit with a new indoor 240-ton dual air tunnel AHU. The AHU goes from one side of the concourse to the other thru an 8’x10’ louver while serving the building with a temporary HVAC system located on the tarmac.
Although not contractually required, we created a BIM model of the mechanical room due to the complexity and key placement of the AHU & surrounding services. HTM as the general contractor executed this renovation of the fully occupied International wing while not impacting the Federal Inspection Service, TSA, Port of Portland, travelers or a single flight schedule. The project also modified and re-glazed skylights, reroofed the wing, replaced ageing linear metal ceilings, fire sprinkler and electrical modifications.
